The Auto Grid Review
Mercedes-Benz GLC Review: Our Verdict
The GLC is one of the steadiest sellers we see in the Kondapur bay, and it is a satisfying car to wrap because the 'Sensual Purity' body is mostly large, flat surfaces with gentle creases rather than sharp character lines. The front bumper's lower intake and the leading edge of the bonnet pick up the first stone chips on ORR runs and Shamshabad's rougher patches, while the two-section tail-lamp design is a clean, largely paint-free zone to mask around. We see GLC 300 and GLC 220d in roughly equal numbers, most often in Obsidian Black or Polar White, and dealer-delivery swirl marks show up under our lamps more on the darker metallics. Panel gaps are tight and the standard 4MATIC stance sits the car slightly higher than a C-Class, which means less underbody scuffing on broken roads — a small but real advantage when we are deciding how far down the sills to extend the film.
What we like
- +4MATIC all-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic standard on both engines
- +620-litre boot is genuinely class-leading for a mid-size luxury SUV
- +Large, flat body panels film cleanly with minimal trim removal
- +One of Mercedes-Benz India's best-selling models, which keeps resale and parts supply strong
What we’d change
- –Only two engine choices — no plug-in hybrid or six-cylinder petrol option in India
- –Burmester sound and the largest touchscreen are reserved for higher trims
- –Dealer-buff swirl marks show up readily on darker metallics under inspection light
- –The separate GLC Electric adds buyer confusion about which GLC is which
Is the GLC right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 9G-TRONIC auto and standard 4MATIC grip make stop-go Hyderabad traffic easy, and the 145 mm clearance handles broken Madhapur roads better than a sedan.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
A quiet cabin, standard all-wheel drive and the diesel's 440 Nm make ORR and expressway stretches one of the GLC's strongest selling points.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
The 620-litre boot, ISOFIX anchors and a genuinely comfortable rear bench make this one of the best family-focused luxury SUVs at its price.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The GLC 300's 258 PS is quick enough for daily driving, but the chassis is tuned for comfort rather than outright cornering sharpness.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Not a sensible first car on running costs, but the GLC's strong resale among used-luxury-SUV buyers is a real point in its favour.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Comfortable and well finished for a chauffeur-driven brief, but rear legroom and seat recline trail the GLE and the long-wheelbase E-Class.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Standard 4MATIC and 145 mm of clearance make this one of the more capable Mercedes SUVs on wet ghat roads, within the limits of its road-biased tyres.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Mercedes-Benz GLC: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The front bumper's lower intake and the leading edge of the bonnet take the first stone chips on ORR runs and rougher Shamshabad stretches; dealer-delivery swirl marks show up under inspection lamps most often on Obsidian Black and Graphite Grey cars.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with mirror caps and headlamp coverage for everyday city and highway use; AG1 full-body for AMG Line and higher trims where owners want the flanks and tailgate protected too.
Coverage
Full front plus A-pillars as the base package; add lower doors, sills and rear wheel-arches for regular highway running, and full-body coverage for top-trim cars.

FAQs
Mercedes-Benz GLC: Questions Buyers Ask
Mercedes-Benz's own online store prices the GLC at ₹77,00,001 for the GLC 300 4MATIC petrol and ₹78,00,001 for the GLC 220d 4MATIC diesel, ex-showroom, as of 6 November 2026 (pricing structure effective from 1 February 2026).
No. The GLC and GLC Electric are two distinct nameplates. The GLC covers the petrol/diesel 4MATIC SUV in this guide; Mercedes-Benz launched a separate all-electric GLC 400 4MATIC on 4 November 2026 at ₹78.5 lakh ex-showroom, built on a different platform.
Euro NCAP tested the current-generation GLC in 2022 and awarded it 5 stars (92% adult, 90% child, 74% vulnerable-road-user, 84% safety-assist protection), a result Times of India explicitly reported as applying to the India-bound car.
With only two variants on sale — GLC 300 petrol and GLC 220d diesel — the choice comes down to use case: the diesel suits higher-mileage highway driving, while the petrol is the smoother, quieter choice for mostly city use.
The most recent dated figure we found (Autocar India, 9 April 2022, for the outgoing generation) put the GLC among the shortest waits in the Mercedes-Benz India range at 1-2 months. We could not source a 2026-dated figure for the current GLC, so confirm live stock with a dealer.
Autocar India and carbike360 (both citing ARAI test data, mid-2026) put the GLC 300 petrol at 14.72 km/l and the GLC 220d diesel at 19.47 km/l.
Yes — the front bumper and bonnet are the panels we repair most often on GLC cars that come through our bay, and dealer-buff swirls show up readily on darker metallics, so a full-front AG1 film is our standard recommendation. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan suited to your trim and colour.
Indicatively ₹92.85 lakh–₹97.56 lakh on-road in Hyderabad: ex-showroom ₹77.00 lakh–₹78.00 lakh (New Delhi, 6 Nov 2026) plus Telangana life tax (18%–21%), first-year insurance and registration. Dealer quotes vary with insurance add-ons and accessories.
