The Auto Grid Review
Mercedes-Benz C-Class Review: Our Verdict
The C-Class is the most common Mercedes-Benz badge we see in the Kondapur bay, and it is an honest car to work on. The clear coat on the flat bonnet and the deep front bumper takes the first stone chips on the ORR and the ring-road stretches into Shamshabad; the lower door cladding and the sills sand-blast quickly on anything resembling a highway run. Most cars that come in are C 220d diesels in Obsidian Black or Selenite Grey, with the Celebration Edition and C 300 AMG Line a close second among buyers who want the Burmester sound and the sportier bumpers. The two-section LED tail-lamp cluster is effectively paint-free, but the surrounding bumper corners show kerb scuffs within the first year of ownership in a way the flatter doors do not. Panel gaps are tight and consistent for a car this size, which makes it quick and predictable to wrap — the main correction work before filming is buffing out dealer-delivery swirls on the darker metallics, which show under our inspection lamps more readily than on Opalite White.
What we like
- +Mild-hybrid petrol and diesel both feel properly sorted for Indian cities and highways
- +Tight, consistent panel gaps that film cleanly with minimal trim removal
- +Strong resale and the widest Mercedes-Benz service network reach in Telangana
- +MBUX, fingerprint scanner and Zero Layer give it tech few rivals at this price match
What we’d change
- –Ground clearance of roughly 97 mm needs care on broken Hyderabad roads and speed breakers
- –Dealer-buff swirl marks show up readily on darker metallics under inspection light
- –ADAS-grade active safety features are AMG Line-and-above only, not standard across the range
- –No local Bharat NCAP crash-test result for the India-built car
Is the C-Class right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The 9G-TRONIC auto and light steering make stop-go traffic easy, but the low 97 mm clearance means slowing for every speed breaker in Madhapur and Gachibowli.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
This is the C-Class's strongest brief — the C 220d's 440 Nm and a quiet, well-damped cabin make ORR and expressway stretches genuinely relaxed.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
Five seats and a 455-litre boot work for a small family, but rear kneeroom trails the longer-wheelbase E-Class and there is no local NCAP score to point to.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
The C 300's 258 PS and sharper AMG Line chassis are enjoyable on a clear ORR lap, though the C 43 is the one that actually rewards hard driving.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
Not a sensible first car on service and tyre costs, but strong resale value among used-luxury buyers softens the blow versus a new entrant badge.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
Comfortable for shorter trips and well finished, but a chauffeur-first buyer who prioritises rear legroom should look at the longer E-Class instead.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
Rear-wheel drive and a low nose mean this stays a tarmac car — the 97 mm clearance rules out anything beyond a smooth ghat road.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The flat bonnet and deep front bumper take the first stone chips on the ORR and Shamshabad stretches; the lower door cladding and sills sand-blast on highway trips, and dealer-delivery swirl marks are most visible under inspection lamps on Obsidian Black and Selenite Grey cars.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with mirror caps and headlamp coverage for C 200/C 220d owners who mostly stay in the city; AG1 full-body for Celebration Edition and C 300 AMG Line cars, whose owners tend to keep the car longer and want the bumper-to-tail-lamp flanks protected too.
Coverage
Full front plus A-pillars as the base package; add lower doors, sills and rear wheel-arches for regular highway runs, and full-body coverage for the top two trims.

FAQs
Mercedes-Benz C-Class: Questions Buyers Ask
CarDekho's current price list has the C-Class from ₹59.90 lakh (C 200/C 220d) to ₹65.60 lakh (C 300 AMG Line) ex-showroom, Delhi, with the 140 Years Celebration Edition at ₹62.40 lakh — all current as of November 2026. The Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC sits well above this, around ₹1.10 crore ex-showroom per Autocar India.
ARAI-claimed efficiency is about 16.9 km/l for the C 200 petrol, 23 km/l for the C 220d diesel and 15 km/l for the C 300 petrol, per CarDekho's variant-level listing.
In our bay, most owners who want strong highway range and low running cost pick the C 220d diesel. If you want the sportier AMG Line look, Burmester sound and DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps, the C 300 is the step up; the Celebration Edition adds a dashcam and rear entertainment for a modest premium over the base C 200.
Euro NCAP awarded the current-generation (W206) C-Class a full 5-star rating in 2022 (93% adult, 89% child occupant protection). That rating applies to the European test car; Mercedes-Benz India has not published a separate Bharat NCAP result for the India-built car, but it carries 9 airbags, Active Brake Assist and ESP as standard.
The most recent dated report we could find (CarWale, 15 April 2023) grouped the C-Class among Mercedes-Benz India's shortest waits, up to 3 months. We could not source a 2026-dated figure, so confirm current stock and your variant/colour combination with a dealer before booking.
Yes — the front bumper and lower doors are the panels we repair most often on C-Class cars that come through our bay, and dealer-buff swirls show up readily on the darker metallics, so a full-front AG1 film is our standard recommendation here. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan suited to your trim and colour.
Both are rear-wheel-drive, mild-hybrid entry-luxury sedans in a similar price band. The C-Class generally leads on cabin tech (MBUX, Zero Layer) and ride comfort, while the 3 Series is the sportier steer of the two — weigh your priority between comfort and driving feel.
