The Auto Grid Review
Citroën BasaltX Review: Our Verdict
The BasaltX is still a rare sight at the Kondapur bay, but the ones that come in confirm what the coupé roofline suggests: a sloping tailgate that collects grime and swirl marks faster than a conventional SUV hatch, and a lower, wider stance that brings the front bumper closer to speed breakers than buyers expect. The 4-star Bharat NCAP score is a genuine selling point we point out to safety-conscious customers cross-shopping the segment. CARA, the in-car voice assistant, is a talking point on every test drive we host before a film job. The Lama leatherette seats hold up well under daily use; the ambient lighting strip along the dash is the first thing to show scuffs if a phone mount is fitted carelessly.
What we like
- +4-star Bharat NCAP with 6 airbags standard across the range
- +Turbo-petrol now available from the base You trim after the Sep 2026 update
- +CARA voice assistant and a genuinely spacious cabin for the segment
- +Distinctive SUV-coupé styling in a crowded sub-4.3m segment
What we’d change
- –Official length, width, height and ground clearance not published for India
- –Thinner dealer and service network than Hyundai, Tata or Maruti
- –Coupé roofline cuts into rear headroom versus a conventional SUV
- –CNG variant specifications and pricing not yet disclosed by Citroën
Is the BasaltX right for you? Seven driver personalities, scored
Find the row that sounds like your driving life — that is the verdict that matters for you.
City Commuter
10–30 km a day through traffic
The NA petrol or the newly affordable turbo-MT handle city driving well, and the speed limiter is a genuinely useful first-in-segment touch for school-zone driving.
Highway Cruiser
ORR laps and expressway weekends
The 110 PS turbo with the 6-speed AT and cruise control makes this a relaxed expressway companion, with the coupé shape adding a touch of stability at speed.
Family First
Four or five aboard, school runs to road trips
6 airbags and a 4-star Bharat NCAP score are reassuring, though the sloping roofline trims rear headroom for taller rear passengers.
Driving Enthusiast
Cares how it steers, not just how it looks
110 PS and 205 Nm with a proper torque-converter automatic give it real pace, but the chassis is tuned for comfort rather than cornering sharpness.
First-Car Buyer
Budget-conscious and resale-aware
A striking first car for buyers who want to stand out, though resale value is unproven next to segment staples from Hyundai or Maruti.
Chauffeur-Driven Executive
Judged from the rear seat
The cabin feels upmarket for the price with leatherette seats and ambient lighting, but rear headroom under the coupé roof is tight for a tall executive.
Weekend Explorer
Ghats, dirt tracks and monsoon roads
No official ground clearance figure is published and the low coupé stance isn't built with broken roads or light off-roading in mind.
Paint Protection
PPF for the Citroën BasaltX: What We Install and Why
Where it takes damage
The sloping coupé tailgate and rear quarter panels collect road grime and dealer-prep swirl marks faster than a conventional SUV's upright hatch, and the lower front bumper is closer to speed breakers than its SUV badge suggests.
Our recommendation
AG1 full-front with a tailgate-and-rear-quarter film for BasaltX owners, since the coupé roofline is the panel set most exposed to swirl marks and film correction before delivery.
Coverage
Full front and bonnet standard; add the tailgate and rear quarter panels for the coupé roofline, plus sill strips for daily commuters.

FAQs
Citroën BasaltX: Questions Buyers Ask
Citroën lists the BasaltX from ₹8.55 lakh (You petrol) to ₹13.90 lakh (Turbo AT Max) ex-showroom as of 29 October 2026, after a September 2026 update brought the turbo-petrol to the base You trim and added a Max NA variant.

Turbo Plus is the value pick — it brings the 110 PS turbo engine without the Max trim's premium. Turbo AT Max is the only variant with the automatic gearbox and the fullest feature list together.
Its sloping tailgate and rear quarter panels are the areas we see swirl marks on most often, so a full-front-plus-tailgate AG1 package is our standard BasaltX recommendation. Message Auto Grid on WhatsApp for a plan by trim.
