PPF for Mahindra Thar Hyderabad
PPF for Mahindra Thar Hyderabad owners is a different job from PPF on a crossover. The Thar's flat, upright panels, external door hinges, exposed bonnet latches and tailgate-mounted spare wheel change how we plot and wrap the film, and weekend trail use changes which panels need it most. Whether you drive a 3-door Thar OG (AXT, LXT or ZXT), an older AX(O) or LX, or a 5-door Thar Roxx (MX1 through AX7L and the Star Edition), Auto Grid Kondapur installs AG1, AG1 Square, XPEL, STEK, LLumar and Garware with templates plotted for your exact body and roof.
Why the Thar Needs It
Risks a Mahindra Thar Faces Around Hyderabad
A Creta gets chipped from the front. A Thar gets scratched from the side, chipped from the front and scrubbed at every wash. The protection plan has to follow how the car is actually used.
Trail Scratches on Doors & Fenders
Weekend runs to Ananthagiri Hills, the Vikarabad trails and the dirt tracks beyond the ORR put branches, thorn bushes and tall grass against the Thar's flat door skins and front fenders. The damage is sideways, not frontal: long clear-coat scratches that collect over months until a Deep Forest or Stealth Black door looks dull in the sun. This is the number-one reason Thar owners come to Auto Grid.
A Flat Bonnet Facing ORR Traffic
The Thar's bonnet is a large, nearly flat, upright panel that sits high in the airflow. On the ORR, NH-65 and the Gachibowli flyovers it catches gravel thrown by trucks square-on rather than at a glancing angle, so chips on a Thar bonnet tend to be deeper than on a sloped crossover bonnet. The exposed bonnet latches on the 3-door mean dust and grit sit on the panel edges too.
Monsoon Mud, UV and Open Parking
A Thar gets washed hard and often. Monsoon mud and red Telangana silt dry on the paint and get scrubbed off at a roadside wash, which is where swirl marks come from. Between those washes the car sits in open parking at a tech park under Hyderabad's UV. A PPF with a hydrophobic top coat (AG1 Square) means the mud releases with water pressure instead of a brush, and the film takes the UV instead of the clear coat.
Not every Thar surface wants film. The black wheel-arch cladding, the unpainted bumper ends on older 3-door Thars, the tubular or moulded side steps and the spare-wheel cover are all unpainted or textured parts that PPF is not designed for. We film the painted steel: bonnet, fenders, doors, quarter panels, tailgate skin, roof (where appropriate) and the painted bumper faces.
Timing Matters
From Booking to Protected: the Thar PPF Window
Order Placed
The 3-door Thar OG (AXT, LXT, ZXT) began deliveries on 11 October 2026 and the Thar Roxx still carries a waiting period on popular variants. Use that gap to decide the film brand, gloss or matte, and the coverage.
Car Delivered
Factory-perfect paint on delivery day. If you want the car filmed before it ever sees a trail, tell us the delivery date and we will collect it from the Mahindra dealership.
Ideal PPF Window
No paint correction needed, so the film goes straight onto the factory clear coat. The first off-road weekend is the one that scratches an unprotected Thar; get the film on before it.
Correction Required
After a few trail runs or one monsoon of roadside washes, a Thar usually needs the doors and bonnet polished before film can go on. Still worth doing, just an extra step.
Many Thar owners coordinate directly with their Hyderabad Mahindra dealer so the car comes to our Kondapur studio before its first drive home. If you already own a Thar that has done a season of trails, that is fine too: we polish the panels first, then film. WhatsApp your delivery date or a photo of the current paint and we will plan the slot.
Brand Recommendation
Which PPF Brand Fits Your Thar
The 3-door and the Roxx are different cars with different owners, so we recommend by body, trim, colour and how often the car leaves tarmac, not by whichever film is on promotion.
AG1
8-year warranty
Our default for the 3-door Thar OG (AXT, LXT, ZXT) and for Roxx MX1, MX3, MX5 and AX3L. 192µm (7.6 mil) ±10%, self-healing, and sensibly priced for a car that is going to be used hard. Easy to replace per panel after a bad trail day.
AG1 Square
12-year warranty
Recommended for Thar Roxx AX5L, AX7L and the Star Edition, and for any Thar in Stealth Black, Deep Forest or Nebula Blue. 221µm, deeper gloss and a hydrophobic top coat that makes mud release with water instead of a brush.
XPEL Ultimate Plus / STEK
10-year warranty
XPEL Ultimate Plus (193µm) and STEK DYNOshield (200 ± 10µm) for owners who want a globally recognised brand. XPEL Stealth and STEK DYNOmatte are the matte options if you want a satin Thar without repainting.
We also stock 3M Scotchgard Pro (about 203µm including adhesive, 10-year), Garware (175–195µm, 5- or 8-year, lifetime on Titanium) and LLumar (178–203µm, 5-, 10- or 12-year by tier) for owners who ask for them by name. Not sure which fits your Thar? WhatsApp the variant and colour and we will give you an honest recommendation, not the most expensive one.
Thar PPF Coverage Options in Hyderabad
Full-front is where city Thars begin. Full-body is what trail Thars actually need, because the scratches come from the side. WhatsApp us for a quote on either, no obligation.
Thar Full-Front

- Painted front bumper face (dual-tone bumpers on LXT, ZXT and Roxx)
- Front fenders above the wheel-arch cladding, incl. the fender-mounted indicator area

- 1–2 days · brand warranty registered in your name
Thar Full-Body
- Everything in full-front plus all door skins (two on the 3-door, four on the Roxx)
- Rear quarter panels and the tailgate skin around the spare-wheel carrier
- Film edges wrapped at the external door hinges and the lower door above the side step
- Hard-top roof on the 3-door; matte film or no film on the Roxx's matte-black contrast roof

PPF and Your Thar's Resale Value
The Thar is one of the few cars in Hyderabad where a used buyer walks straight to the doors and the lower fenders, not the bonnet. They are looking for the tell-tale trail scratches that say the car has been off-road, and a Thar with swirled, scratched doors is immediately negotiated down or assumed to have been driven harder than it was. A Thar whose factory paint has lived under PPF presents like a city car even if it has done fifty trail weekends, because the film took the scratches and healed them in the sun.
This matters more on the Thar than on most SUVs because of how it is bought and sold. The 3-door was discontinued in its convertible-top form in April 2025 and replaced outright by the Thar OG in September 2026, so clean examples of the earlier AX(O) and LX hard-tops are already being sought out by enthusiasts who want a specific body or colour. The Roxx, meanwhile, holds value because of its waiting periods. In both cases the paint condition is the single most visible thing a buyer judges.
One practical note: if you plan to sell within a few years, choose a film that can be removed cleanly and leaves the factory paint intact, which every brand we install does when it is removed professionally. If you plan to keep the Thar for the long haul, the 12-year AG1 Square warranty makes the most sense, because it will likely outlast your ownership of the car.
How We Install It
PPF Installation on a Thar at Auto Grid Kondapur
A Thar is a plotting problem, not a stretching problem. The panels are flat and square, so the film lays down easily, but every panel has an edge, a hinge, a latch or a carrier that has to be templated precisely rather than trimmed by hand on the car.
Paint Inspection
We check the bonnet for transit chips and the doors and fenders for trail scratches. A new Thar straight from the dealer needs zero correction; a Thar that has done a season of Vikarabad usually needs the doors polished first.
Decontamination
Iron fallout remover, clay bar and a full panel wipe-down. On a Thar we pay extra attention to the panel edges near the hinges and the bonnet latches, where red silt and wash residue collect and would otherwise sit under the film.
Template Plotting
Computer-plotted templates for the exact body: 3-door or Roxx, hard-top roof, split tailgate and spare-wheel carrier, external hinge cut-outs and the fender indicator. Nothing is freehand-cut on the car, so no blade ever touches the paint.
Dust-Controlled Application
Film applied in our dust-controlled bay with edges wrapped around the hinge cut-outs and panel lips so that trail scrub cannot lift an edge. Full-front takes 1–2 days; full-body 2–3 days. Warranty registered in your name before the car leaves.
Aftercare for a trail Thar is simple: rinse mud off with water pressure before it dries rather than brushing it, avoid the automatic brush wash, and let the film sit in the sun after a scratchy weekend so the self-healing top coat can do its work. We walk you through this at handover.
FAQs
PPF for Mahindra Thar Hyderabad: Common Questions
Yes, and the off-road use is the strongest reason to do it. A Thar that only sees Kondapur and the ORR picks up stone chips on the bonnet; a Thar that goes to Ananthagiri or the Vikarabad trails on weekends comes back with branch and bush scratches down the doors, front fenders and rear quarter panels. Those are long, shallow scratches in the clear coat, exactly what a self-healing film takes instead of the paint. The film will not stop a rock gouging a panel at speed, but it does absorb the fine scratches that otherwise accumulate into dull, swirled doors within a year of trail use.
AG1 (192µm / 7.6 mil ±10%, 8-year warranty) is our default on a 3-door Thar: the panels are flat, the car is used hard, and the film's job is to take scratches and be replaced on a single panel if it ever needs to be. For a Thar Roxx AX7L, AX5L or the Star Edition, we usually recommend AG1 Square (221µm, 12-year warranty, hydrophobic top coat), because the gloss paint on those trims shows swirl marks more and the hydrophobic layer makes mud washing noticeably easier. If you want a globally recognised name, XPEL Ultimate Plus (193µm, 10-year) and STEK DYNOshield (200 ± 10µm, 10-year) are both on the shelf at Auto Grid Kondapur.
Yes. Matte PPF such as XPEL Stealth or STEK DYNOmatte turns a gloss Thar into a satin finish without repainting, and the Thar's flat, square panels carry a matte finish very well. Two things to know before you choose it. First, neither the 3-door Thar OG nor the Thar Roxx is sold in a factory matte body colour, so matte film is a look change, not a match. Second, the Roxx's contrast roof is already a matte-black metal roof, so gloss film on that roof would change its appearance; we either use matte film there or leave the roof unfilmed and protect the painted panels only. WhatsApp us a photo of the car and we'll show you both options.
No. Professionally installed paint protection film is a removable surface layer over the clear coat. It does not alter the body, the paint or any Mahindra-fitted component, and it does not affect the manufacturer warranty on your Thar or Thar Roxx. We install using computer-plotted templates with no cutting on the car, and we register the film warranty separately in your name with the brand.
On most cars we suggest full-front first. On a Thar used off-road we usually say the opposite: the doors and rear quarter panels take as much damage as the bonnet, because trail scratches come from the side, not the front. If the car is a city Thar that does the ORR and the IT corridor, full-front (bonnet, bumper, front fenders, headlamps, mirror caps) covers the chip zone. If it goes to the trails even once a month, full-body is the coverage that actually protects the panels that get hit. WhatsApp us how you use the car and we'll recommend honestly.
That is exactly what it is for. Branch and bush contact leaves fine scratches in the clear coat; a self-healing PPF top coat closes those scratches with heat (parked in the Hyderabad sun is usually enough). The film also takes the scuff from the side step area, where boots and gear rub the lower door. What PPF cannot do is stop a deep gouge from a rock or a steel gate, and the black unpainted wheel-arch cladding on the Thar doesn't need film at all.
Full-front PPF on a Thar or Thar Roxx takes 1 to 2 days at our Kondapur studio. Full-body coverage takes 2 to 3 days, with the Roxx at the longer end because of the extra pair of doors and the split tailgate. We offer free pickup and drop across Hyderabad, including straight from the Mahindra dealership on delivery day. Studio hours are Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm.
The cost depends on the body (3-door or Roxx), the coverage (full-front or full-body), the film brand and whether you want gloss or matte. Because a Roxx full-body and a 3-door full-front are very different jobs, we don't quote a generic figure. WhatsApp Auto Grid on +91 99499 74764 with your variant and colour and we'll send an accurate quote the same day.
