BYD Sealion 7 crosses 5,000 deliveries in India — and a data error we're correcting along the way
BYD India says its Sealion 7 performance electric SUV has delivered over 5,000 units since its February 2025 launch, with the range now spanning four variants from ₹41.90 lakh to ₹55.90 lakh ex-showroom.
BYD India says the Sealion 7, its flagship performance electric SUV in the country, has crossed 5,000 customer deliveries since launching in February 2025. The company announced the milestone on 2 November 2026, with ex-showroom prices across the now four-variant range running from ₹41.90 lakh to ₹55.90 lakh.
What happened
Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicle Business at BYD India, said in the company's statement: "The Sealion 7 has been one of our strongest-performing models in India, and we are proud of the response it has received from customers. This reflects the growing interest in electric SUVs that combine performance, technology and premium comfort." He added that BYD's focus going forward is on "strengthening the ownership experience and bringing more of BYD's technology to Indian customers."
Averaged over the roughly 21 months since launch, 5,000 units works out to about 240 deliveries a month — a meaningful number for an electric SUV priced above ₹40 lakh, and one BYD describes as its fastest-selling EV in India to date. The Sealion 7 is reported to account for close to a third of BYD India's more than 15,000 total customers across its range, sold through 49 showrooms in 40 cities.
The range itself has grown since launch. The Sealion 7 arrived in 2025 with the Premium and Performance trims only; BYD added the more accessible Dynamic variant in August 2026 at an introductory ₹41.90 lakh, bringing a 71.8 kWh Blade Battery (520 km claimed NEDC range) below the Premium and Performance cars' larger 82.56 kWh pack (567 km and 542 km respectively). In October 2026, BYD layered on a 150-unit limited run, the Premium Festive Edition, at ₹50.60 lakh — ₹70,000 above the standard Premium — adding a Tan and Black Nappa leather cabin, an electrically operated sunshade for the panoramic roof, and a head-up display, as part of the brand's "Celebrate Your Dreams with BYD" festive campaign. The dual-motor Performance remains the range-topper at ₹55.90 lakh, with 523 PS (390 kW) and 690 Nm driving all four wheels for a claimed 4.5-second 0-100 kmph time.
What it means for an Indian buyer
If you're cross-shopping premium electric SUVs — the Sealion 7's natural rivals are the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX1 and Mahindra's XEV 9e — a five-figure-strong, steadily growing delivery count is a useful proxy for how a relatively new brand's service network and parts supply are actually coping, something a spec sheet can't tell you. BYD's own release doesn't break out monthly sales, so treat 5,000 as a cumulative total rather than a sign of accelerating month-on-month demand; it is, however, corroborated identically across BYD's statement and independent reporting, which is more than can be said for some EV sales claims in this segment.
The variant lineup is also worth a second look if you last checked pricing before August 2026. The Dynamic's arrival meaningfully lowered the entry point into Sealion 7 ownership without touching the Premium or Performance specs, and if style and anniversary-exclusive touches matter to you more than an extra 25 km of range or all-wheel drive, the Festive Edition is a genuine middle ground between the Premium and Performance — so long as you move before BYD's 150-unit allocation sells out, since there's no indication the edition will be replenished.
One practical point carried over from our existing Sealion 7 coverage still applies: BYD imports the Sealion 7 as a completely built unit under India's CBU quota rules, which capped supply in 2025 and produced a dealer backlog running to several hundred orders at points of peak demand. BYD's own release doesn't address current waiting periods, so confirm delivery timelines directly with your dealer rather than assuming availability has caught up with demand purely because the car has now reached a five-figure sales milestone.
The Auto Grid angle
A ₹40-56 lakh electric SUV with a sharply creased bonnet, waterdrop-shaped mirrors and 20-inch alloys — exactly the Sealion 7's shape — is a car whose owners notice chips and kerb rash fast, and at this price point they tend to want to protect the investment before the first scratch rather than after. Whether you're one of the next 5,000 buyers taking delivery of a standard Premium or specifically chasing one of the 150 Festive Edition units, a full-front PPF package with mirror-cap protection in week one is the simplest way to keep a car this new looking that way.
What's next
BYD hasn't said whether the Festive Edition's 150-unit allocation is close to selling out, nor given a target for the Sealion 7's next delivery milestone. We'll track BYD India's own announcements and update this model's catalogue page if the lineup, pricing or waiting periods move again.

Questions on this story
More than 5,000, BYD India said on 2 November 2026, since the car's launch in February 2025 — an average of roughly 240 deliveries a month across the period, which BYD calls its fastest-selling electric vehicle in the country so far.
₹41.90 lakh for the entry Dynamic, ₹49.90 lakh for the Premium, ₹50.60 lakh for the limited-run Premium Festive Edition and ₹55.90 lakh for the dual-motor Performance — all ex-showroom, per BYD India's own product page.
A 150-unit limited run based on the Premium variant, introduced in October 2026 at ₹50.60 lakh ex-showroom. It adds a Tan and Black Nappa leather interior, an electric sunshade for the panoramic glass roof and a head-up display over the standard Premium, which it otherwise matches on battery and range.
It is one of the more complete performance electric SUVs on sale in India: a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, 11 airbags and up to 567 km of claimed range on the Premium. The main caveats are that it hasn't yet been tested by Bharat NCAP and that CBU import-quota limits have produced months-long waits at points of peak demand.
