AG1: The India-First Film
AG1 PPF was developed by Auto Grid in collaboration with researchers at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad campus. Every other brand on this list was engineered for North American or European conditions and then sold into the Indian market. AG1 was built from the start for India's specific stress profile:
- Monsoon humidity — adhesive chemistry designed for repeated wet-dry cycles across June to October each year
- Summer heat — surface temperatures on dark-coloured cars in Hyderabad regularly exceed 65°C; AG1's TPU formulation handles thermal expansion at this level
- Construction dust — alkaline silica particles from construction roads attack adhesive edges; AG1's edge seal is specifically tested against this
- UV intensity — South India's UV index is significantly higher than the US or Europe; AG1's inhibitors are dosed for this exposure level
The result is a film that maintains bond integrity through Indian monsoon cycles without the edge lifting or yellowing seen on some imported films after two or three monsoon seasons.
XPEL Ultimate Plus: The Global Benchmark
XPEL is the gold standard of PPF globally. Their cutting software (DAP) is the most comprehensive in the world, clarity is exceptional, and the 10-year warranty reflects genuine confidence in the product. If someone specifically wants XPEL, we install it — and they will not be disappointed.
The honest trade-off: XPEL was not designed for Indian conditions and costs 30 to 40 percent more than AG1. For a car owner who wants the globally recognised premium brand regardless of origin, XPEL is the right choice. For a car owner who wants the best film for Indian roads and conditions specifically, AG1 performs better in context.
STEK DYNOshield: The Gloss-First Film
STEK is a strong performer, particularly on high-gloss and metallic finishes. The DYNOshield film has exceptional optical clarity and is popular with performance car owners who prioritise visual finish. Warranty is 7 years, pricing is comparable to XPEL.
Where STEK falls short in the India context: its adhesive was not designed for tropical humidity, and we have observed marginally more edge-related issues in post-monsoon inspections compared to AG1 on the same car types. Not a disqualifying problem, but a real one.
LLumar and GARWARE: The Value Options
Both are reliable films for budget-conscious buyers. LLumar has strong brand recognition and a reasonable warranty. GARWARE is Indian-made and offers competitive pricing.
The gap with AG1 at similar pricing: AG1 carries an 8-year warranty versus 5 to 7 years for LLumar and GARWARE, and AG1's self-healing TPU is a more advanced formulation. For a car staying in the family for 8+ years, that difference matters. For a car being sold in 3 to 4 years, LLumar or GARWARE is a reasonable call.
What About AG1 Square?
AG1 Square is the premium tier above standard AG1. The key differences:
- Advanced self-healing TPU formula — faster recovery from swirl marks
- Hydrophobic topcoat included as standard (equivalent to ceramic coating on top of XPEL)
- Maximum optical clarity — zero distortion even on complex curves
- 12-year warranty — the longest of any film we install
AG1 Square is our recommendation for new luxury vehicles (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Land Rover), high-value SUVs, and owners who want the absolute highest tier available. The 12-year warranty versus XPEL's 10-year is a material difference at the premium end.
The Honest Recommendation
Most Hyderabad car owners (daily drivers, mid-range to premium SUVs): AG1 — best Indian-condition performance, 8-year warranty, strong value.
Luxury and new vehicles (BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, new high-value SUVs): AG1 Square — 12-year warranty, hydrophobic topcoat included, advanced TPU.
